I agree with you completely. Furthermore, there is even a more likely scenario that will cause loss of data.
Since the data is still editable while viewing with the "wrong" password, a malicious or careless user simply needs to edit a single character in an existing record (while it is displaying garbage characters), and the entire record is lost forever. After exiting the record, and then reentering BeSafe with the CORRECT password, the record will be garbled and thus lost.
