First, you should not presume QuickInstall is installed on the desktop, because it may not be. In fact Quick Install only comes with the latest PalmOne handheld devices, but is missing from Handspring, Sony and Samsung units for example.
Second and more to your question, Catapult does not currently support installing on external card.
Catapult 2.3 however (or 3.0, we haven't decided yet) is already in beta testing and will allow you to do that. Upgrade will be free for anyone who purchased Catapult in the past few months (undexided how much yet) and there will be some upgrade charge for the rest.
We expect to ship in November.
