Yes, I think you have done something wrong and if I would admit we might have some responsibility for that.
There are the low-priced, non-talking so-called "standard" phrasebooks and then there are the talking phrasebooks. You could see two links under "Phrasebooks" on the left when you enter the Palm Zone at beiks.com (click the "Palm OS" label at the top).
If you wanted a talking phrasebook you should have bought it.
