LexSpell 1.2 *does* work with SnapperMail right out of the box.
If you are having trouble launching it, then this is probably separate problem.
Make sure your resident settings are properly set for the menu-backspace combination, go to SM and try it once more. If there is still no effect please do a soft reset on the Treo; that will most likely make it work afterwards.
