This will be one of those situations where we have no other choice but to explain what is going on with an error anywhere, but with our program and give you a few suggestions on how to fix it.
For a starter, none of our programs does anything in the Palm Desktop configuration whatsoever; the only exception are applications which instal desktop conduits, but none of the dictionaries do. Even if they did, that would not affect the rich text control to fail to load, this is completely beyond the scope of I would say, any add-on to Palm Desktop. I repeat, a BEIKS dictionary installation could not possibly affect Palm Desktop.
The fact that it clearly did suggest that there was something already wrong with Palm Desktop - for whatever reason, adware, malware, spyware, viruses or just broken disk logic structure - and it just showed up at an unappropriate time.
The best course of action would be as follows:
1) Try restarting the computer and see if the problem is still there
2) Try reinstalling Palm Desktop; this would most certainly resolve the problem you see, although it may not resolve the underlying cause for it
3) Run ScanDisk to ensure the disk's logical structure is correct
4) Run a program to scan for malware, spyware, aware etc. One free and good program we use is the Trend Micro free scanner at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
